Pyrenees High Route section hike: Day 1

Tane Harre
Tane Harre France

We woke up early-ish and started walking about 7:30. Greta was doing surprisingly well for a person with  a lot of blisters. Better than me. I was covered in sweat all the way until the halfway cafe. After that I was ok.

It is unfortunate that there wasn't much to be seen until we were three quarters to the top. Good walking weather but being in a cloud doesn't do much for the view.

It seemed all to soon that we were saying goodbye to Greta. We are doing the HPR and she is doing the Camino which carry's on into Spain. We had a small lunch in a field with a herd of horses and s herd of cows and then watched her go.

Angelynn and I headed off on the HPR around a mountain, down through fields, cows, road, ancient tombs and eventually to the Harpy's Grotto.

At this point I realised two things. The first was that there was going to be a shit of a uphill climb first thing in the morning and the second was that I had assumed that there was a refuge here.

For those of you that know me I don't like sleeping in places that I don't have permission to be in. Angelynn isn't like that and forgets that I am. This leads to some tension.

(Angelynn inserts that she has no problem leaving and going to another place despite being pregnant with my baby.)

We slept at Harpys Grotto.
