Routeburn
The Routeburn is fairly nice. For starters the track is wide enough for two people to walk abreast. The grade isn't difficult and the views are amazing. You can see why so many people want to do it.
I must admit it was a bit of shock. Sort of like having a room in a nice hotel after living in a tent. So many people. Lodges for guided walks. Helicopters flying over.
Not very long though. We walked it in a day. This was imposed as there are camping restrictions on or near the track. We finally made camp at the south end of Lake Howden.
Hindsight
- Routeburn is easy after TA.
- It is also worth doing as an alternate.
- I was disgusted at the 'one for rich and another for poor' accommodation.
