St Jean du Gard to Paris

A couple of things went wrongly right with our return to Paris. I had booked tickets from Ales, changing at Nimes and Lyon but as we hadn't made it to Ales we would have to catch the bus in the morning...except there wasn't any bus as it was a public holiday. There was a bus to Nimes though at 7:15am so we decided to go there to get on the TGV. This turned out to be a brilliant idea. Not only is Nimes better than St Jean du Gard but Angelynn also managed to wangle out trains so we didn't have a stop in Lyon and arrived in Paris earlier.

But, back to Nimes. Nimes was once a crossroads in the Roman empire and still has a working stadium among its other Roman ruins of temples and towers. If we had wanted to live in St Jean du Gard, it was overtaken by wanting to live in Nimes. The place is great. We spent the morning investigating the stadium and then walking the gardens after which we went for a lunch at the market. I had ducks hearts and sausage with a quite nice gazpacho.

And then it was back to Paris. I like Paris, but after Nimes it just seems a little dirty and smelly. Sorry, Paris.......
